Before I became a writer I was a teacher and I know how important it is to make an author visit count.
Visits usually include a one hour talk to a group of students and a book signing. Additional workshops can also be arranged for groups up to 30 students.

Hi Jenny, Students from year 8 at our school, along with students from two other local schools are nearing the end of our Gr8 Book Debate. This is an interschool reading group, where 10 students from each participating school, read and review 5 books. At the Finale we look forward to a heated debate full of passion and opinion about the books. Stargazing for Beginners is one of the 5 books and I wondered whether you would be prepared to send our participants a message of encouragement to share with them on the day. We are happy to accept replies to this message, email messages, You Tube clips…we are flexible! The Finale is being held on Wednesday 11 July and I will of course let you know the result.
I read Stargazers last Friday in one sitting. It wasn’t an all night-er. More of an all morning-er. It’s a long time since that has happened with a book. I was hooked from page 1 and had to find out what happened. Although we haven’t had the vote yet, the students at our school have LOVED Stargazers and we now have all of your books in the LRC. Result all round.

Can I just start by saying THANK YOU for writing such a brilliantly engaging and heart-warming story; my whole school adore it! I am currently working in an East Anglian primary school and have been setting online lessons using Land of Roar – all of the children have fallen in love with Arthur, Rose, Win, and just the whole story. I honestly believe it has helped our children get through lockdown together – thank you so much.
Firstly, I wanted to contact you as I was wondering whether it would be possible to have your email address to liase about a possible visit in the (very long off I imagine) future. The children in year 5 will be in year 6 hopefully as of September, and I know they will be queuing up to purchase Return to Roar when it is released! I will be
Secondly, I have made some resources that support the teaching of Land of Roar and wished to post them on a teaching website – would that be okay with yourself? The lessons include some screenshots of the book at particular points, so I thought I might have to ask! If you do not give me permission I shall happily amend the resources without screenshots but it will make it harder to model teaching obviously 🙂

Hi Jenny, I really hope you are well. I am a primary school teacher in a deprived area in the South West. I fell in love with the Land of Roar upon the first time reading it and I know the class that I teach feel the same! They have read it as a class and now some are reading it again independently because they love Arthur, Rose and Win! I am determined to inspire my class to read because of both how important and special it is! Would it be possible for you to write my class a letter? Hi Jenny, my year 4 class have been absolutely hooked on ‘The Land of Roar.’ (as have I). It has been the highlight of our day ever since we started reading it. We finished it this week and I already have children saying they have ordered ‘The Return to Roar’ or have asked for it for Christmas. We will be finishing off our ‘Roar’ activities after Christmas with letters to the author, which I would love to send to you to make it really real for the children. I can honestly say, I have never seen children hooked on every word and chapter like the children have been when I read your book. I have three copies in the classroom and a list of children queuing to read it so I have requested to order some more. Thank you so much for writing it and for the pleasure it has brought 29 eight and nine year olds.

Hi Bella thank you for choosing The Land of Roar as your favourite book. My favourite book is probably Persuasion by Jane Austen, but I have lots of favourite books! To start off with I tried to write books for adults, but as soon as I started writing for children I felt at home and like I could be myself. English and art were my favourite subjects at school although I wasn’t great at spelling and I hated comprehension! I have won an award for Truly Wildly Deeply and The Land of Roar. My name is Ted Guest and I am teacher at Woodmancote School.
My class, Year Four, have just been reading and studying your Roar series. We have loved the book and lots of my children bought the book so we could read together.
Arthur and Rose have become part of our world for 7 weeks.
However, 4 of the books have fallen apart within this time (including mine) While this is not your fault, I was wondering if you could help me find the persons responsible.
It is a real shame that these children won’t get the joy of reading the same book again.

Hi Ted, thank you for the message and I’m so sorry to hear about your books. There was a fault with a batch of the books towards the end of last year which has been sorted out now, but I imagine your copies came from this print run. It’s very frustrating for you and your students, and I hate to think that your Roar books are falling apart! The books are faulty and you and your students are eligible for refunds or replacement copies, but they have to come from the retailer where each copy was bought from (who in turn get the copies from the supplier). I’m really sorry about this. Do let me know if you have any problems getting replacement copies. Can I send you and your students some signed book plates? Best wishes, Jenny
