Testimonials

“A fascinating insight into the process of writing a novel… Pupils had a really valuable experience.” – Diane Midghall, St. Richards Catholic College, Bexhill

“Jenny’s visit to our school was a delight. Jenny fascinated and enthused the students when talking about the process of writing and what happens to the brain when you read. She has become somewhat of a celebrity figure in our school and the prospect of completing a workshop with Jenny has inspired students to become writers themselves.” – Kevin Hatchard, Heathfield Community College

‘Jenny has been to our school many times now and every visit has been a great success! The students always respond really well to her warmth and enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoy the excellent creative writing workshops that she delivers. We are very much looking forward to having her back for World Book Day this year.’ – Sophie Quinnell – Hillview School, Kent

  1. Hi Jenny, Students from year 8 at our school, along with students from two other local schools are nearing the end of our Gr8 Book Debate. This is an interschool reading group, where 10 students from each participating school, read and review 5 books. At the Finale we look forward to a heated debate full of passion and opinion about the books. Stargazing for Beginners is one of the 5 books and I wondered whether you would be prepared to send our participants a message of encouragement to share with them on the day. We are happy to accept replies to this message, email messages, You Tube clips…we are flexible! The Finale is being held on Wednesday 11 July and I will of course let you know the result.

I read Stargazers last Friday in one sitting. It wasn’t an all night-er. More of an all morning-er. It’s a long time since that has happened with a book. I was hooked from page 1 and had to find out what happened. Although we haven’t had the vote yet, the students at our school have LOVED Stargazers and we now have all of your books in the LRC. Result all round.

    Yours book-ishly,
    Sarah Day

    1. Hi Sarah – how exciting! I’d love to send a message and how lovely to hear that you enjoyed the book. It really means a lot when I hear this! I’m chuffed to bits that your students are enjoying my books so much. Jennyxx

  2. Hi Jenny,
I am a year 4 teacher and my class have been so inspired by The Land of Roar that they have written to you. I now have 27 letters and a promise to keep! Is there an address I could forward them to please?
    Many thanks,

    1. Hi Debbie I would love to read your letters. I think if I reply here my address will be public. Could you DM me either on Twitter or Instagram? Or you could send an enquiry on my school visit page and that way I would have you email address. Many thanks, Jenny

  3. Hi Jenny,
My year 5 class had the task of selecting a new class novel. We started with 32 books and after reading many different blurbs and opening chapters we now have a winner…The land of roar! My class are bursting with questions for you. Would you mind answering a few? It would make their day!

    1. Well I am honoured, Claire! Please thank your year 5 class and I hope they enjoy their journey to Roar. I would love to send them a letter and answer any questions they have. The easiest way to answer the questions is on Twitter – do you use it? Otherwise, would you be able to send me an email via the School Visits page on this website and then we can stay in touch that way. Wow…. no. 1 out of 32 books… I’m absolutely thrilled!!

  4. Hi Jenny,
Can I just start by saying THANK YOU for writing such a brilliantly engaging and heart-warming story; my whole school adore it! I am currently working in an East Anglian primary school and have been setting online lessons using Land of Roar – all of the children have fallen in love with Arthur, Rose, Win, and just the whole story. I honestly believe it has helped our children get through lockdown together – thank you so much.

Firstly, I wanted to contact you as I was wondering whether it would be possible to have your email address to liase about a possible visit in the (very long off I imagine) future. The children in year 5 will be in year 6 hopefully as of September, and I know they will be queuing up to purchase Return to Roar when it is released! I will be

Secondly, I have made some resources that support the teaching of Land of Roar and wished to post them on a teaching website – would that be okay with yourself? The lessons include some screenshots of the book at particular points, so I thought I might have to ask! If you do not give me permission I shall happily amend the resources without screenshots but it will make it harder to model teaching obviously 🙂

Again, thank you for writing a story that children these days can still enjoy and believe in, it has made the world of difference!

    Many thanks,

    Tess

  5. Dear Jenny, I hope you are well. Firstly, I am writing to let you know how much I adore your book the Land of Roar. As a primary school teacher and English lead, I am always on the look out for excellent books I can share with my class and yours are perfect. I cannot wait for the next one. Currently, I am trying to inspire more children in my school to love reading. Would it be possible for you to write a message to the children at Middleton Cheney Primary Academy? I know they would love this and it will really inspire them. Thank you for writing truly amazing books. Kind regards, Emma Hammond Middleton Cheney Primary Academy

    1. HI Emma – of course. It’s lovely to hear that you enjoyed Roar and I’ll send a letter to your students as soon as possible. I hope you have a great summer. xx Jenny

  6. Hi Jenny, I really hope you are well. I am a primary school teacher in a deprived area in the South West. I fell in love with the Land of Roar upon the first time reading it and I know the class that I teach feel the same! They have read it as a class and now some are reading it again independently because they love Arthur, Rose and Win! I am determined to inspire my class to read because of both how important and special it is! Would it be possible for you to write my class a letter? I can only imagine how much this would mean and show them there is true power in reading. Thank you for your books and I cannot wait to read the third! Best wishes, Rebecca Hingston

  7. Hi Jenny, my year 4 class have been absolutely hooked on ‘The Land of Roar.’ (as have I). It has been the highlight of our day ever since we started reading it. We finished it this week and I already have children saying they have ordered ‘The Return to Roar’ or have asked for it for Christmas. We will be finishing off our ‘Roar’ activities after Christmas with letters to the author, which I would love to send to you to make it really real for the children. I can honestly say, I have never seen children hooked on every word and chapter like the children have been when I read your book. I have three copies in the classroom and a list of children queuing to read it so I have requested to order some more. Thank you so much for writing it and for the pleasure it has brought 29 eight and nine year olds.

  8. Hello Jenny. My name is Bella and I am 11 years old. I have to do an English project about the author of my favourite book which is The Land of Roar. Would you please let me know your favourite book, did you always want to write children’s books, was English your favourite lesson at school? Have you won any awards for writing? I love Land of Roar and can’t wait for the next book to come out. Thank you. Bella x

    1. Hi Bella thank you for choosing The Land of Roar as your favourite book. My favourite book is probably Persuasion by Jane Austen, but I have lots of favourite books! To start off with I tried to write books for adults, but as soon as I started writing for children I felt at home and like I could be myself. English and art were my favourite subjects at school although I wasn’t great at spelling and I hated comprehension! I have won an award for Truly Wildly Deeply and The Land of Roar. This made me very happy!! Thanks for being a Roar fan, Bella, xxx Jenny

    1. Hi Sophie – how brilliant! I’d love to see Ruby’s letter. Please tell her thank you very much from me! Can you send me a direct message on Twitter or on my Facebook account and then I can share an address. X Jen

  9. Hello Sophie, Greetings from Connecticut! My 7 year old son, Bennett, has read and loves your Land of Roar books and we are wondering when the Battle of Roar will come out in the US as a paperback copy? I look forward to hearing from you 😊

    1. Hi Sara lovely to hear from you all the way in Connecticut! How brilliant to hear that Bennett loves the Land of Roar books – please pass on to him how happy this makes me. I’m going to get in touch with my publishers and see if they know. This is probably something I should have on the tip of my tongue, but unfortunately I have a terrible memory for things like this! xx Jenny

  10. Hi,
My name is Ted Guest and I am teacher at Woodmancote School.
My class, Year Four, have just been reading and studying your Roar series. We have loved the book and lots of my children bought the book so we could read together.
Arthur and Rose have become part of our world for 7 weeks.
However, 4 of the books have fallen apart within this time (including mine) While this is not your fault, I was wondering if you could help me find the persons responsible.
It is a real shame that these children won’t get the joy of reading the same book again.
    Thanks,
    Mr Guest

    1. Hi Ted, thank you for the message and I’m so sorry to hear about your books. There was a fault with a batch of the books towards the end of last year which has been sorted out now, but I imagine your copies came from this print run. It’s very frustrating for you and your students, and I hate to think that your Roar books are falling apart! The books are faulty and you and your students are eligible for refunds or replacement copies, but they have to come from the retailer where each copy was bought from (who in turn get the copies from the supplier). I’m really sorry about this. Do let me know if you have any problems getting replacement copies. Can I send you and your students some signed book plates? Best wishes, Jenny

  11. Hi Jenny

After a lot of research over the summer break and hearing such fantastic reviews of your book The Land of Roar I am starting the year with it as our class book. Would it be possible for you to send the class a letter just outlining how you got your story inspiration, your favourite part and you saying that you hope they’ll enjoy it. They are a class who have not yet developed a love for books and I am just looking for ways to ‘grab’ them!

  12. Dear Jenny,

I write to you as my son and I have just thoroughly enjoyed The Case of the Red Moustache in Aquila and we have one question: do you intend to develop this as a novel? We both hope so very much indeed. My son and I really want to know more about Iris and Tuffy and their adventures in espionage!

    Best wishes,

    Garan

    1. Hi Garan, I’m so pleased you enjoyed The Case of the Red Moustache. It was actually inspired by a book I’ve been working on for some time, but have never quite found the time to write. I am planning to develop it – you wouldn’t believe what I’ve got in mind for Iris and Tuffy! Thank you for sending me this message; it’s prompted me to keep working on this project. Watch this space! Best wishes, Jenny

      1. Dear Jenny,

Thank you for replying to my message. I’m delighted to hear that you may go on with the tale of Iris and Tuffy. It’s a wonderful story – the best we’ve read in Aquila. Should you turn it into a full-length adventure novel, remember that you’ve got two ready-made readers waiting patiently for it!

I wish you all the best with this and all your other projects.

        Garan

P.S In our imagination, we’re already in that plane with Iris at the controls …
